Deaf/Hard of Hearing Awareness

Acquire an deeper understanding and knowledge on deaf awareness from our tutors, who have a hearing loss themselves. Learn basic sign-language skills and gain confidence in communicating with Deaf and hard of hearing people. Front-line staff will learn how to be better service providers to Deaf and hard of hearing people.

This sensory awareness training is made up of two different perspectives, Deaf and hard of hearing. For each perspective the following issues will be covered:

• The challenges that sensory loss creates.
• The rights that people with sensory impairment have.
• The culture of the respective impairment.
• How to communicate with people who have a sensory loss.
• Inspirational experiences of the tutors own personal challenges.
• Helpful skills to help you communicate with people with a sensory loss.
