Coping with deafness

There are various ways in which coHearentVision support Deaf people, these include:

Sign Language Interpreting Service

The Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) is based at the coHearentVision , and was established in 1995. The service provides a confidential and impartial sign language interpreting service to all deaf people living within the Leeds area.

SLIS ensures that deaf people can access every part of life, without themselves ever having to pay for an interpreter; the service is free to deaf people and is theirs by right. Find out more about the Sign Language Interpreting Service.

Hearing Loss Support Service

The Hearing Loss Support Service was developed in the early 1980s in response to increasing demands for technical aids in the home. Leeds was one of the few service providers at the time to recognise this need, and the Service started life in a small office manned by just one member of staff, offering basic equipment for the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people. Find out more about the hearing loss service.

Social Work Services

The Social Work team provides a social work service for profoundly deaf people living in the Leeds metropolitan area, and was established in 1948. We work in partnership with Leeds Social Services. The service aims to provide confidential services to all Deaf people who require them.

Communication service

The Communication Service is located on the ground floor of Centenary House.

Aims and objectives of the service

To offer a quality service for people with learning disabilities who have a communication impairment. Find out more about the communication service.
