Interesting facts about British Sign Language
- There are approximately 70,000 people in Britain who use British Sign Language as their first language.
- British Sign Language was first recognised as a Language in 2003.
- Each county has its own Sign Language, it is not universal.
- Sign language is the 5th most widely used language in the UK.
- There are 5,000 signs in British Sign Language, but they can be combined to produce infinite variations.
- Facial expressions are equally as important as hand movements in British Sign Language.
